De Es was a student of
Ernst Fuchs at the Vienna school of fantastic realism. During his
Stone Period in the 70's De Es painted people and places made out of rock which later in the 80's went through a methodical
Transformation period when he started painting them as made out of light or slowly becoming made out of light. I'm really into this idea of a narrative thread running through whole decades worth of paintings.
