Jiri Barta is a Czech animator known primarily for making stop-motion films out of wood. This feature Krysar (more familiar to us Americans as The Pied Piper of Hamelin) was made in 1985. Tragically, after the fall of communism in Czechoslovakia Barta apparently couldn't get any funding for his film work and didn't release any material for 15 years. Even now his output is minimal and geared more towards children.

Very recently in magical Iceland there was an eruption from the volcano EYJAFJALLAJOKULL!!!
(this will eventually be the best and most unpronounceable metal band name ever)
The ash from this explosion filled the skies of our planet for miles upon miles and shut down ALL European air transportation for days. Some scientists apparently fear that this is just the beginning of a chain of eruptions in the region. Incidentally, this volcano produced loads of lightning as it erupted. Did you know that volcanoes create lightning? I didn't.

In 1912 William Hope Hodgson published his horror epic The Night Land. Shortly after, he published a condensed novelette version of the same story under the title The Dream of X. I have never read either of these. But I know that in 1977 the short version was republished on a very limited run with new artwork by Stephen Fabian. I recently discovered all of these things at Golden Age. These visions alone convince me that the original book must be worth checking out.
